OUR STORY

In the 1950's members of numerous communities throughout the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas were raising

critical questions about the adequacy and effectiveness of local enforcement of Housing, Building, Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical codes.

In those days, communities were adopting the Housing Code to qualify for the Urban renewal and other State and Federal Funds. This trend started with the Housing Act of 1949.

On May 22nd, 1959, Building Officials of the City of Edinburg, Texas, presented a set of by-laws, rules, and regulations to some interested persons, and at this meeting, it was decided to call the organization, "Building Trades Inspectors Association of the Lower Rio Grande Valley". On April 30th, 1964, the association voted to change the name to "Valley Building Officials Association".

There were some moments in its early years when the organization was on the verge of disbanding, yet due to some stubborn and devoted inspectors like Mr, P.H - City of Mission, Mr. Ramon A. Hinojosa - City of McAllen, Mr. Marving Roberts - City of Harlingen and Mr John Adams - City of Benito, This organization managed to survive. Since our organization, other organizations were founded, such as "Building Officials Association of Texas" and many others created by the Community Affairs Office in Austin, Texas,

We have monthly meetings to increase knowledge and unify procedures throughout the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Thanks to everyone in the construction trade that has supported our association, and may we continue to serve the Valley in the next millennium
